About The Job

We're a high-growth healthcare SaaS company seeking a hands-on Head of Finance who can build the foundations of our finance operations from the ground up and drive operational excellence while supporting our strategic growth. This role combines deep financial operations expertise with analytical capabilities to help scale our finance function.

What You'll Bring to the Table

We're looking for a detail-oriented financial leader who excels at both executing day-to-day operations and providing strategic insights. You'll be responsible for managing our core financial operations while building scalable processes for the future. This role requires someone who can work independently, dive deep into the details, and translate financial data into actionable business insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of financial operations, including month-end close, financial reporting, compliance, risk and audit

  • Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations

  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls and processes

  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A activities

  • Create and analyse SaaS metrics and unit economics to support decision-making

  • Partner with the executive team to provide financial insights and recommendations

  • Prepare Board and investor reports and presentations

  • Optimize and maintain the finance tech stack

  • Manage relationships with external auditors and tax advisors

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has startup or high-growth company experience

  • Proven track record of implementing and improving financial processes

  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail while maintaining big-picture perspective

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Experience with fundraising and investor relations

  • Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with stakeholders

  • Tech-savvy with experience in modern finance and CRM tools (HubSpot CRM experience a plus)

  • Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex financial concepts across all levels from non-finance audiences to the Board and investors

  • Brings a founder's mentality to solving problems

Required Qualifications

  • CPA/CA qualification

  • Strong technical accounting skills and deep understanding of financial operations

  • Deep experience with SaaS business models, metrics and growth drivers in a high-growth start-up environment

  • Proficiency with accounting software (particularly Xero) and financial systems

Attitude & Approach to Work

  • User Obsession: You'll bring unwavering commitment to developing the most exceptional product for our users. This will guide every decision you make at Lyrebird.

  • A Builder Mindset: You don't accept the status quo. You see obstacles as opportunities for growth and development. You're proactively building solutions, rather than fixating on problems.

  • An Olympian Work Ethic: You're relentless in pursuing your goals and demonstrate a high level of ownership, care and pride in everything you do.

  • Commitment to the team: You play for the back of the jersey, not the front. You're committed to acting in the best interest of Lyrebird and our users at all times.

Growth Potential

This role offers significant opportunity for growth as the company scales. The successful candidate will initially be an individual contributor focused on establishing robust financial operations, with potential to build and lead a finance team as the organization grows.

This position reports to the COO and is based in Melbourne, Australia.
